Nicholas Da Costa has been working on the development of medical materials for decades. In the ‘70s he participated in the invention of sterile surgery covers that significantly decreased the number of post-surgery infections. He also specialized in ophthalmology materials, such as contact lenses and intraocular lenses for cataract surgeries. He played an important role in the development of coloured contact lenses that are used for aesthetical as well as medical purposes. In Zlín Da Costa was implanted an artificial intraocular lens he himself helped develop. After the surgery he returned to London where he lives and works.
