Why eyelid surgery?:

The most frequent reason for an eyelid surgery is skin aging and loss of its elasticity. Skin starts to overhang, often together with prolabing fat. Eyelid surgery is mostly performed on upper eyelids, sometimes also lower lips are operated on. At our clinic, the best solutions and options will be offered and recommended to you during the pre-operation checkup consulted by a plastic and esthetic surgeon.

Pre-operative period:

If a patient has been taking influencing blood coagulation medicine (Pelentan, Warfarin, Lawarin…) for some longer time, it is necessary to consult discontinuing the medicine with an internist. We ask your internist to change the treatment to low molecular heparin and to attach the laboratory INR and QUICK values to your medical documentation.

Eyelid surgery procedure:

First, a cooling eye mask is put on the patient`s eyelids. Afer the eyelids have been locally anaesthetized by anaesthetics reducing bleeding, the surgeon will remove redundant skin using a high frequency electrocautery and a scalpel. When needed, prolabing fat bags can be removed as well; thus the effect of the operation becomes improved and prolonged. The wound is sewed up and sealed. After the surgery the patient goes home in company of their relatives, friends, etc.

After the surgery:

Edema and bruises on upper as well as on lower lids may appear during the first days after the surgery. At our clinic, you will receive a special cooling gel mask which you will be putting on your lids for the first 2-3 days. Do not put the mask directly on the wound but lay a clean tissue or a handkerchief on the lid first and then the mask. It is recommended to cool the lids with short breaks so that your cavities do not get a cold.

In the course of the first weeks, small scars may be visible and they may be of a pinkish colour; but they will be disappearing slowly and becoming less visible.

In the time after the surgery it is necessary to be and stay calm. The best way is to relax in a seated position. We recommend that you sleep with your head in a higher position. Avoid dusty and infectious environments and do not wash the wound.

Within a 6-7 day time, the patient is checked-up at our clinic and the sutures are removed. Only after the sutures have been removed, may women start wearing eye make-up and use eye cosmetic products. After about a week, the patient can get back to work. We do not recommend any physically demanding exercise and/or endurance sooner than 3 weeks after the surgery.
