The most frequently used intradermal implant these days is hyaluronic acid produced by biotechnological methods.
Hyaluronic acid is included in human body and its functions are to moisturize the skin and increase the complexion tone. The aging complexion gradually loses its moisturizing attributes which are guaranteed by hyaluronic acid. The skin is dryer and weaker and first wrinkles appear. The tissue sagges and facial features droop. Hyaluronic acid is applied into damaged skin in the form of injection with a transparent gel. After the injection, the gaps and spaces between collagen fibres fill and wrinkles thus smooth out. The preparative is manufactured in several modifications so that the implantation disturbs the skin structure as little as possible, and so that it fills it as well as can be. The less deep the wrinkle is, the better cosmetic effect is achieved. The hyaluronic acid preparatives go together so very well that there is no need of a pre-test which is, however, necessary in collagen preparatives.
Which wrinkles may be treated with hyaluronic acid and what are its other uses?
Hyaluronic acid has a wide utilization scale in esthetic surgery. It is suitable for treatment of shallow as well as deep wrinkles, some scars, and for enlarging and remodelling lips and chin. The best effect is achieved when hyaluronic acid is applied into the area between cheek and nose, into shallow wrinkles in mouth area, on the forehead and on the root of nose. Another indication is removal of deeper scars after acne.
Does gel application hurt and what is the procedure?
The gel is applied under local anesthetics with a really fine needle so it is almost painless. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and after it is finished there are some slight swellings and erythemas which usually disappear within 2 days. How long does the effect take?
The period is highly individual and lasts for about 5 to 12 months but it depends on many factors including the treated areas.
What are the risks? When not to apply the substance?
The risks are minimal but they cannot be neglected. They are temporary erythemas, infection, acne-like problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women, patients with acute or chronic eczema, patients with coagulation disorders, and those with acute herpes must not be treated by this procedure.
