With her discovery in a laboratory in Cambridge, Zuzana Holubcová moved embryology a long way forward. She was able to reveal what happens with the human ovaries prior to fertilisation. The discovery, which in practice facilitates the timing of artificial fertilisation, brought her worldwide recognition and a meeting with the British Queen.

After years of research in Cambridge she has returned home to the Czech Republic and told us how the operation on her eyes made working with a microscope easier.
