Dry eye syndrome can appear at any age. Beyond the unpleasant burning and gritty sensations, it can also lead to serious vision complications.
A lack of tears or their reduced quality causes patients to experience uncomfortable stinging, burning, or the sensation of having a foreign body in the eye. Other frequent symptoms include eye redness, light sensitivity, and blurred vision. At selected Gemini Eye Clinics, we specialize in addressing this issue. Book an eye examination at any of our outpatient clinics, where we will examine your eyes and propose the best treatment options for you.
At our clinics in Zlín, Prague, České Budějovice, Brno, Ostrava, or Průhonice, we treat dry eye syndrome using specialized IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or JETT PLASMA technology.
During the procedure, a series of light pulses is applied to the patient’s lower eyelid. These pulses stimulate the nerves in the area of the Meibomian glands (oil glands in the eyelid), activating them to improve both the quality and quantity of the tear film. Unlike other methods, such as artificial tear drops, this treatment allows the eye to be lubricated by its own natural tear film. The activity of the tear glands is typically activated just a few hours after the procedure.
The treatment takes only a few minutes, and the eyes are protected by safety shields throughout the process. A standard course of treatment usually consists of 4 sessions.
The procedure is not suitable for pregnant women, patients with diabetes, epilepsy, blood clotting disorders, dermatological diseases, patients with a pacemaker, tattoos, or permanent makeup. Before the procedure, we recommend omitting self-tanning creams and dietary supplements to support sunbathing (at least two weeks before the procedure); we do not apply to the skin after sunburn (in the last month).
Gemioptal HERBAL is a natural product based on traditional Chinese herbs, specifically developed at the Gemini Eye Clinic. In our clinical practice, we most frequently recommend Gemioptal HERBAL to patients experiencing eye irritation due to a lack of tears or reduced tear quality, as well as those dealing with vitreous floaters or early-stage presbyopia (age-related blurry near vision).
Acupuncture needles are applied to specific points around the eye area and other locations across the body. There is no need to worry—needles are not applied directly into the eye. Instead, a very thin needle is inserted below the eye, just above the lower edge of the orbit (the eye socket).
The needle comes into contact with the external eye muscles. The insertion of this ultra-thin needle takes only a few seconds and is not painful, though some patients may find the sensation slightly unusual or uncomfortable. The orbital acupuncture session itself lasts only a few minutes.
