The World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) is one of the most prominent and historically oldest international medical events in the field of eye care. The congress is organized by the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), which is currently celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding.
This year’s 40th edition of this prestigious educational event took place from June 26 to 29, 2026, in Prague. The congress serves as a global platform for sharing scientific knowledge, innovations, and clinical practice. The program covers all subspecialties of ophthalmology, with a major focus on:
- Technological Innovations: Advances in diagnostics, robotic eye surgery, and the integration of artificial intelligence and telemedicine into vision care.
- Education and Courses: Including specialized hands-on courses and opportunities to meet leading world experts.
- Scientific Sessions: Lectures on the latest treatment methods for serious conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, or genetic disorders.
Our doctors left a significant mark at the congress. Dr. Eva Szabó, Chief Physician of the Gemini Clinic in Prague, successfully led expert sessions within the program, and Dr. František Šafránek chaired one of the scientific sections.
Dr. Pavel Stodůlka, Head of Gemini Clinics, together with his European team, triumphed in the Ophthalmic Premiere League video competition, where teams representing four continents competed against each other. Furthermore, he won an award for the Czech Republic for the best case-study lecture focusing on artificial corneas.
Other Gemini doctors did not miss the event either. For instance, Dr. Simona Šťastná, Chief Physician of the České Budějovice clinic, was particularly captivated by the new insights and complicated eye cases from around the world.
