Laser eye surgery allows patients to eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses. These procedures reshape the cornea to ensure the eye focuses images correctly. Modern technologies enable safe and precise treatments with rapid recovery and high patient comfort. Generally, these procedures are suitable for patients aged 18 to 45.
Available Methods
PRK
PRK was one of the first laser vision correction methods. During the procedure, the surgeon removes a thin layer of the corneal surface, and the laser then reshapes the cornea. This method is suitable for patients with thin corneas. The disadvantages include a longer healing period and increased eye sensitivity following the procedure; however, its safety and precision remain very high.
LASIK
LASIK is currently the most common method. The surgeon creates a thin “flap” on the cornea, under which the laser removes the necessary corneal tissue. The flap is then repositioned. Dr. Pavel Stodůlka was the first eye surgeon in the Czech Republic to perform the LASIK method in 1995. The procedure is mostly painless, the eye heals quickly, and patients can often see clearly without glasses shortly after. This method is suitable for the majority of patients with nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
ReLEx SMILE
The most modern method is ReLEx SMILE. This technique does not require a flap; the surgeon makes only a tiny incision to remove a small piece of corneal tissue (lenticule). The procedure is minimally invasive, and the eye heals very rapidly. SMILE is particularly suitable for patients with higher degrees of nearsightedness and astigmatism.
