MUDr. Zuzana Halašová and MUDr. Zuzana Koželová from Gemini Eye Clinic in Zlin have just returned from Brussel, where the European Cornea and Cell Transplant Registry conference took place. Our young doctors presented their experience with corneal transplants at Gemini Eye Clinic, which holds a first place with the highest number of such operations in the Czech Republic with a contribution to the ECCTR. Their presentation was a great success. The Positio device, developed by Gemini Eye Clinic specialists, was also awarded, which helps with the smooth post-operative recovery of corneal transplant patients.
In Europe, medical institutions are not obliged to enter the statistical results of these operations into a registry, as in the USA. However, European healthcare experts are trying to change this. This would give many surgeons access to important statistics from surgeries and patients’ post-operative conditions. This will be a big step forward in the treatment of people with corneal disease.
