At the BRASCRS 2025 congress in São Paulo, Brazil, Czech ophthalmologist Dr. Pavel Stodulka, one of the world’s leading eye surgeons, delivered a presentation.
BRASCRS is the largest Brazilian congress dedicated to cataract and refractive surgery, attracting top specialists from around the globe each year. Dr. Stodůlka introduced a revolutionary technology that makes it possible to adjust the diopters of an already implanted intraocular lens using a laser. This innovation allows surgeons to correct residual refractive errors without the need for another operation. A monofocal lens can even be converted into a multifocal one, with changes that are precise—and even reversible. According to Dr. Stodulka, the method could enter routine clinical practice within 3–5 years, once it has passed regulatory approval.
The congress also presented new recommendations for refractive surgery, designed to standardize procedures and help patients better understand their treatment options. The document will also be introduced at the ESCRS congress in Copenhagen this September.
